Shriya made her Tamil movie debut in Enakku 20 Unakku 18 (2003), cast along with Telugu actor Tarun, Trisha Krishnan. The film was an average hit at box-office, but it was more importantly a musical hit due to music composed by A. R. Rahman. She had plenty of glamorous roles lined up for her in Tamil, but instead continued with Tollywood for a year. She has made her comeback in Kollywood through the film Mazhai with Jayam Ravi. The movie did well at the box-office.
She beat other top actresses for the much coveted role with Rajinikanth in Shankar’s Sivaji: The Boss which is the by far the costliest Indian film till date. Most recently she appeared opposite Vijay in Azhagiya Tamil Magan and she is currently filming with Vikram in Kanthaswamy.

Genelia left Kollywood for a while to concentrate on the Tollywood industry, starring in other successful films including, Satyam, Masti, Samba and Sye. She followed it up with a pairing with popular actor Venkatesh in Subhash Chandra Bose. She returned to the Tamil industry with the Sachein with Vijay. It was a mediocre movie that beat Mumbai Express and lost to Chandramukhi which were all released on April 14, 2005. An important information about this movie is that it was shot at brisk speed as it was an interim project for Vijay, squeezed between Thirupachi and Sivakasi, with him pairing for the first time with Asin in the latter while his lucky lady, Trisha was his lead lady in the earlier mentiond. In Telugu, Happy opposite Allu Arjun was a hit. Bommarillu, with Siddharth Narayan, is a super hit and won Best Movie Award in the Santosham Film Awards.

Chennai Kadhal, her Tamil project did average business.[1] She was also a part of Mani Ratnam’s stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai. Recently, she won the Filmfare Award as a Best Actress for her performance in the block buster Telugu movie Bommarillu for the year 2006. She acted in her first Kannada film Satya In Love in 2008. The film grossed close to 4 crores in its opening weekend creating a new record in the Kannada film industry.
